Arts Week 2021

23rd May 2021

This half term has been quite intense for the children as we have strived to cover additional work related to Reading, Writing and Maths and we have noticed that they have started to tire. Although the children have still accessed some of these core subjects during this week, we felt it was a good time to place some additional focus on the arts.

Each year group worked on a piece related to the Local Authority’s “Voices and Visions” theme of “Gratitude.”

In Year R, each class created a heart using a collage of hands, with a “Thank You” banner. They took part yoga, making clay aliens and dance.

Year 1 created sculptures using natural materials in the style of Andy Goldsworthy and took photographs of these to display. This represent ‘Gratitude’ for the enjoyment we have gained from the natural world. They have also be doing some colour mixing activities.

In Year 2, the children created “Cubism Bears,” linked to the story “Bear Says Thanks,” and they also created some Chinese Art, making concertina dragons, Chinese lanterns and painting cherry blossom using water colours.

Year 3 made a large free-standing “Tree of Gratitude,” which the children decorated with leaves on which they wrote what they are grateful for. They also did some mathematical art, related to shape, and took part in some Martial Arts.

In Year 4, the children created a “Wall of Gratitude,” with words written on individual bricks. They also made “Rag Rugs.”

We are sure that the children will produce some fantastic art work but, more importantly, we hope that they really enjoy the week after they have worked so hard and behaved so well throughout this half term.
